Extreme E
Extreme E
The global electric racing competition highlights natural environments under threat from climate change. The competition pits electric racing cars against each other, aims to encourage us all to take positive action to protect the future of the planet and highlight how we can prevent further damage to help combat climate change.
CUPRA has been part of Extreme E from the outset. It was the first automotive brand to announce its participation, joining forces with ABT Sportsline as the team’s main partner.
ABT CUPRA XE TEAM
Having completed its second season, which culminated in a sixth-place finish on the overall standings, the ABT CUPRA XE team is focused on achieving consistent results in its third season. Now in his second season for ABT CUPRA XE, five-time Dakar winner Nasser Al-Attiyah (2011, 2015, 2019, 2022 and the 2023 edition) will partner with the World RX rising star Klara Andersson.
Our driver pairing will be a key part of the ABT CUPRA XE's push to compete for podium places and victories at every event on the calendar.
CUPRA Tavascan XE
At CUPRA, electrification and performance go hand in hand, and the 2022 reinterpretation of last year’s model matches the spirit of the Extreme E Championship. The car is equipped with a 54-kWh battery placed behind the cockpit, which contributes to produce an optimal car weight distribution, and goes from 0 to 100km/h in about four seconds. Crucially, the CUPRA Tavascan XE is more sustainable and environmentally focused than ever and comes equipped with 3D-printed parts to improve adaptability and make repairing the all-electric car far easier and quicker during the heat of a race.
This season, the team’s car features an updated livery to match the UrbanRebel, the ABT CUPRA GEN3 Formula e car and the CUPRA e-Racer. A multi-layered and chameleonic body colour, combining a deep purple and neon yellow. The all-electric off-road racing car hints at the design language to be used in the future series production CUPRA Tavascan, the brand’s second 100% electric model, which is designed in Barcelona and will reach Europe and overseas markets in 2024. The Extreme E series is enhancing CUPRA’s electrification research while promoting electrification, sustainability, environmental awareness, and gender equality.
Klara Andersson made her debut for the team in season 2, stepping in following an injury for Jutta Kleinschmidt. The duo of Andersson and Al-Attiyah managed to finish the season in triumphant style, by winning the Energy X Prix in Uruguay.
Xavi Serra, Head of CUPRA Racing said: “Our second season saw us make serious progress in terms of understanding how we work best as a team. We ended the season with a run of strong results, and we’re keen to build on that. Our goals are clear: We are here to fight for the title. Adding Klara to the team provides race win experience, and I can’t wait to see both her and Nasser out competing once more.”
