Several reasons. An important point for most consumers is cost-efficiency; in a lot of cases, it is actually cheaper to run an electric vehicle over a standard ICE engine. However, you can check your individual circumstances with our range calculator to see for yourself.
Other benefits include ease of use (due to lack of needing to change gears), lower maintenance requirements, zero emissions, and superior acceleration. Also, EVs currently pay no road tax (although this may change in future).
Charging at home on an 11kWh charger, it can take up to 6.5 hours for our 59kWh engine, and up to 8 hours for our 79kWh engine.
However, with fast chargers, a 60 kWh battery could take as little as 30 minutes to charge from empty to full at a 150 kW rapid charger (providing the charger is performing at that rate). At a 22 kW chargepoint, it could take around 3 hours.
Depending on the battery size and trim chosen, with the CUPRA Born the maximum range is up to 265 miles with the 59kWh battery and up to 372 miles with the 79kWh battery (official test WLTP figures) on a full charge³. For most drivers this is more than sufficient for daily use and therefore charge mainly at home or place of work. For longer journeys a charge at a public charger will be required.
There are three main ways to charge:
- Through a 3-pin household wall socket. This is the slowest but most easily accessible option.
- Through a wallbox, which can be installed at your home if you have suitable off-street parking. It substantially faster than a 3-pin plug (above).
- Through public or on-road charging points, which can be the quickest way to charge, particularly where rapid or ultra-rapid options are available. Accessibility of public charging is increasing all the time.

² The accurate range for your vehicle will vary according to a number of different factors which include the route, weather conditions, vehicle load (occupants + luggage), battery age and condition, optional equipment (alloys, tyres, etc.), the use of peripheral energy consumption systems such as heating, air conditioning and heated seats, as well as your driving style. The indicated range has been calculated in compliance with the WLTP regulation which sets out standard test conditions applicable to all car manufacturers. This ensures that the values calculated in accordance with this regulation are comparable for all vehicles.
